Suncoast Humane Society offers family friendly dog training courses.
Three classes offered:
Basic Level Training: You will have fun working with your dog in a force-free way using positive reinforcement. You will learn to use verbal cues and hand signals to teach your best friend to sit, stand, lay down, focus (watch me), best manners at the front door and polite leash walking along with other behaviors.
Second Level Training with Canine Good Citizen: A program of the American Kennel Club (AKC) designed to establish responsible dog ownership. It certifies graduates of the training have the behaviors needed to be reliable members of their families and communities.
A 10-step Canine Good Citizen test will be offered on the 6th week of the course. The evaluation includes Accepting Friendly Strangers, Walking Through a Crowd, Reaction to Other Dogs and Distractions, Supervised Separation, and Grooming. Handlers and canines with passing scores will be able to order a certificate from the AKC.
Fun with Tricks and Agility-O: Have fun with agility and obedience work while teaching your dog a trick or two. Tunnel work, jumps, teeter time, and target work are just a few of the items that you and your dog can experience in this fast paced class. Open to all attentive dogs that can follow direction and are good around people and dogs.
