Chief Operations Director

This position is independently responsible for overall operations of the facility and other assigned programs and projects. Hires, trains, supervises schedules, evaluates, promotes and terminates subordinate level staff members. Regularly reviews and assists in updating guidelines assuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations and the mission of the facility. Works cooperatively with other Directors and Managers. Works directly with the Chief Executive Officer to formulate and implement operational policies and procedures. Essential Functions

The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the work load.

  • Responsible for the daily supervision of all facility departments, assuring that proper policies and procedures are followed.
  • Evaluates all new and ongoing projects regularly to determine and implement new changes.
  • Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, machinery and equipment.
  • Continually institutes staff training, continuing education seminars and development programs to assure staff is aware of new and revised policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments which impact the shelter’s progress and operations.
  • Assures the ordering of janitorial, maintenance and medical supplies, in accordance to established purchasing policies.
  • Reviews all incoming invoices relating to shelter operations, insuring accuracy of invoices.
  • Helps build, establish and maintain alliances with community organizations, agencies and vendors
  • Demonstrates supervisory knowledge to include training methods, motivation and decision making techniques.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Reviews budget and assist in fiscal planning.
  • Mediates disputes, conflicts and grievances.
  • Maintains shelter’s disaster plan.
  • Maintain smooth working relationships with staff and volunteers.
  • Apprise the Executive Director of policy or issues that impact the shelter’s progress, operations and healthy environment.
  • Promotes the mission and goals of Suncoast Humane Society.

Specialized Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge in animal health and well-being to include nutrition needs and resources for information.
  • Ability to identify animal species, breeds, ages and sexes.
  • Ability to identify signs of animal illnesses and injuries.
  • Knowledge of common animal diseases.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of supervision, motivation techniques, and basic training methods.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Must be able to keep focus on several tasks at once, and be prepared for interruption of work to attend to a more crucial matter.
  • Be emotionally capable of dealing with euthanasia.

Cat Foster Coordinator

Suncoast Humane Society is looking to hire a Foster Coordinator for cats. The Cat Foster Coordinator is responsible for the general health, wellness, and organization of cats in the program; recruiting and providing training, mentorship, and 24-hour on call assistance for foster volunteers; and managing and maintaining organization of the cat foster programs and materials. The position requires patience, team work, collaboration and flexible hours to meet the requirements of the foster volunteers. Adoption Specialist

This position is responsible for greeting customers, receiving phone calls and providing the highest quality of customer service to our clients as we assist them in finding an appropriate animal companion. Through conversation and education the Customer Service/Adoption Specialist matches potential adopters with an appropriate pet. This includes introducing guests to adoptable animals, explaining the adoption process, assisting with the application, and processing the adoption. Thrift Store Receiving Clerk

Suncoast Humane Society is looking to hire a Thrift Store Receiving Clerk at our Englewood Thrift Store, one or two days during the week, plus weekends. This individual would be responsible for all incoming donations. Tasks would include unloading, sorting, separating and stocking donated goods in the warehouse, including furniture, being able to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time. This individual would have a good eye for valuable items, including clothing, jewelry, furniture, housewares and small items. This individual would also be trained in other areas, such as cashier, customer service, pricing goods, daily register reconciliation, computer data entry, and other duties. Animal Care Specialist

Suncoast Humane Society is looking to hire a full time Animal Care Specialist. Responsibilities include: maintaining a safe and sanitary facility, providing humane handling and care for all shelter animals, assuring proper nutrition, housing, and basic medical needs on a daily basis. Veterinarian

Suncoast Humane Society is looking to hire a full-time, passionate and experienced Veterinarian. Our vision is to celebrate a community whose pets are safe, protected and loved. We are located in Southwest Florida where you can enjoy beautiful weather year-round with a plethora of outdoor activities and just a short day trip from destinations such as Orlando, Miami and the Florida Keys. The Veterinarian is an invaluable member of the team. This is a skilled, professional position requiring the performance of surgical sterilization, preventive health care, and overseeing medical examination and treatment of animals received at Suncoast Humane Society. This includes supervising surgical assisting staff. A Doctoral Degree of Veterinarian Medicine is required, and two years of experience is preferred.
