Lost and Found Pets

Review Our Lost & Found Database

At the bottom of this page, you can view lost and found animals. If you’ve lost or found an animal, the resources on this page can help reunite the critter in question with its owner. Save this information! Please click on the photos to find out more about each animal.

Prevent Lost Pets... Be Sure To Take A Photo

Be sure to take several color photos of your pet, identify the best one, and make multiple prints. On the back of each print write your pet’s name, breed, age, approximate height and weight, and your name and phone number. Put these away for future use.

ID Methods to Protect Your Pet

Proper identification is your single best chance for finding your missing companion! There are several kinds of pet IDs available: tags for the pet’s collar, tattoos, or microchips.

Microchipping is a great resource because most animal shelters and vet clinics will have a scanner, allowing them to scan a pet for its chip and trace it back to its registered owner right away. Suncoast Humane Society will microchip your pet for the low fee of $40.00. Please call the shelter to set up an appointment (941-474-7884).

What To Do When Your Pet Is Missing

When you first discover that your pet is missing, immediately contact all animal shelters and County Animal Control offices in your area.

By law, stray animals brought to a shelter are held for only five days — after which, if the animal is unclaimed, it can be legally adopted out to someone else. Don’t wait around for a couple of days to see if your pet comes back on its own! File a lost report with every resource in your area right away. Phone numbers for local shelters and Animal Control offices are listed below.

Whenever possible, bring a photo of your pet to each animal shelter where your pet could be brought. A photo is significantly better than just a verbal description because staff can then do a visual comparison on the spot.

For each shelter you contacted, make a return visit every few days.

If you put up signs around town, use your pet’s photo on the sign whenever possible.
