Surrender A Pet
Suncoast Humane Society accepts pets surrendered by their owner through managed intake, as well as those found as lost or stray. The shelter is the LAST option, and is not the best one. Our work demands ongoing judgement, and we may be able to offer solutions that do not require shelter surrender.
Our Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (PASS) program may be able to provide solutions that can help pets stay with their families, and out of the shelter. If you have any doubts regarding surrendering your pet, please call to discuss possible options. We can provide free pet food, training, advice, or refer you to an expert — this may enable you to keep your pet!
We realize that pet owners sometimes have to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender their pet for a variety of reasons. Unpredictable changes in life situations, allergies in the family, financial difficulties, or behavioral problems are just a few. If the decision has been made to surrender the pet, we are here to help.
There are several things we ask you to remember when surrendering a pet:
Have your pet’s veterinary records and any important documents. Having as much information as possible about your pet makes it easier for us to get to know him or her and expedite the intake process.
Please Make a Donation. Suncoast Humane Society operates solely on individual donations, wills, bequests and gifts from foundations. We do not receive government funding and are not supported financially by national animal welfare organizations. Each animal turned into our shelter costs us well over $350 to accept and care for. While no animal in need is ever turned away for lack of a donation, we do ask that you consider a minimum donation of $25. Please give what you can, as every donation helps.
